Welcome to Wiseman Counselling Services, a psychotherapy practice serving Toronto and the GTA located in East York.

Suzanne Wiseman is a Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO#002688) and a member of the Ontario OACCP in Toronto. She has worked with children and families for over ten years as a teacher, trauma and EMDR trained therapist drawing upon her teaching experience with children and adolescents. Her training has prepared her to help people work through a variety of emotional difficulties. She specializes in trauma and attachment.

A variety of techniques are utilized by Suzanne. She helps clients work through trauma by means of EMDR, mindfulness psychodynamic therapy, hypnosis and neurofeedback. Following the initial intake, each intervention is selected and adapted to fit the client’s age, interests and treatment needs. Mindfulness is integrated into Suzanne’s practice, allowing clients to respond to life’s pressures in a “calmer” manner that benefits their heart, head and body. This awareness allows individuals to be fully present and improve their quality of life. By encouraging clients to recognize their awareness and strength, they are better able to understand themselves and draw from their strengths.

Suzanne has found that helping her clients to best understand their issues and to make them more tangible, she helps them be in control of the issue instead of the issue being in control of them. Her belief is that everyone has strengths, yet when struggling with life’s challenges you may feel overwhelmed.

Talking to a professional can help you find your inner strength. Remember, it takes a strong person to ask for help. Counselling can help you (or your child) become more self-aware and understand the reasons why you behave and react in the way you do. It helps to find the real you.

In therapy your strengths and resilience are honoured. You will be listened to, respected, and supported without judgement. You may come to understand coping strategies you’ve used to manage pain and difficult emotions and decide to explore new and healthier ways to manage challenges you face in everyday life. This will help you to move forward from painful or frustrating life experiences. The next step is taking on the work and making a commitment once you have chosen to make an investment in yourself.

Suzanne has an M.A. in Counselling Psychology from the Adler Institute of Professional Psychology and a B.Ed. from York University and Social Work Certificate from the University of Waterloo.
